We were recently invited by Claudia Habib at Simply Weddings to shoot at Bespoke in April of 2017, an opportunity for which we were grateful. If you’re not familiar with Bespoke, it’s a wedding show that’s been going on in Halifax for about 3 years and it’s significantly different. At most wedding shows, vendors set up little booths in a gigantic building and couples can come around to hear (or ignore) our sales pitches…a sort of one-stop-shop for all things wedding. Bespoke differs in that there are no booths. Instead, there are 6 unique spaces (usually 6 different ballrooms) and vendors collaborate to make 6 mock wedding reception spaces for engaged couples to come and browse. Each ball room is decorated with with tables, plates, silverware, menus, flowers, desserts, glasses, centre pieces (and more) and a mock bride in a dress (with gown, hair and make up, jewelry). This year we also had a mock bridesmaid. In this way, couples get to see how the vendors actually transform the space. Pretty cool concept. There were also 6 photographers there, one for each space.
I got the impression that Claudia puts in a lot of thought into the vendors she puts together for each ballroom. Rae and I were tasked to photograph a space that was put together by MacFarlands (decor), Koko Mod (flourist), Scanway (dessert), DiM Designs (stationary), Karma Bridal (gowns), Elle Munster (make up), and Salon Resource Group (hair). It was uncanny how the styles of all these vendors blended so well to create such a cool space. And it was the sort of aesthetic that Rae and I love to shoot. We’re actually really happy with how the photos turned out, largely in part to how well the vendors did their crafts. After we finished shooting, we looked around to see the other 5 spaces and discovered that they were all just as beautifully and seamlessly put together, and that the style of the aesthetic was well suited to the photographer shooting the space.
Super interesting event to shoot, and an interesting opportunity to meet people in the industry.
Thanks to Marriott harbour-front for hosting the event. And thanks to Simply Weddings for organizing.
