2017 was a jerk. It was the sort of year that went around psychopathically killing the best celebrities and putting the worst ones into the highest offices. And while the dreamers among us thought that 2017 might deliver technological wonders beyond our comprehension, the biggest news was that Twitter doubled its character count to 280 (which only increased the political nonsense). If 2017 had a face, perhaps you’d forgive me if I punched it. In Halifax, 2017 rained on almost every Saturday wedding that happened. Almost.
Not this one though. This is one of the very few that slipped through last year’s cruel fingers. And the result was glorious. It was jumping-rope on the waterfront, drinks at the beer garden, double decker buses painted pink, champagne on the sidewalk, and late night photos downtown. And the photos are here, now, while 2017 is forever finished. So that’s some sort of victory, I suppose.
Not that this wedding went totally and completely without a hitch. Some people fell down (which I photographed, but will not share publicly), some flowers got lost, someone slept in a closet, and another’s hand swole to the size of a balloon. And naturally, I blame 2017 for all of that. But it was no match at all for this wedding. There was so much good in this wedding that these things were almost funny. Sometimes, they were outright hilarious in fact. Which was no accident. With the right set up, you can stand up to a terrible year with grace. It helps when your family is bound together strongly, and your friends are all solid (seriously, I’m envious of how close the entire wedding party was with one another). This wedding helped teach me the value of family and friends in this life. And I’m grateful.
I hope you enjoy some of the photos that portray 2017 in its best light.
