Have you ever gotten to know somebody on Skype, and then you get the butterflies when you go to meet them in person? We had that! It’s kind of the best.
The day before Krissy and Dave’s wedding at Nova Scotia’s Ocean Stone Resort, we were meeting these two in the flesh for the first time. The four of us had Skyped a few times and had fallen into friendship, and it was so cool to see them in 3D, shake hands, hug. If it felt initially weird to meet familiar people for the first time, the weirdness immediately evaporated when we picked up exactly where our last Skype conversation left off–with jokes, wedding chat, and jokes. Dave is equal parts zany and dry in his humour. Krissy is all heart.
On the evening before the wedding, we hung around with Krissy & Dave’s people, the BBQs and the beers, the chatter of people who are happy to see one another, and we photographed and hung out too. The crowd welcomed us in graciously.
The wedding day was equally glorious. Sun streamed into the windows as Krissy and Dave, situated in separate, ocean-front cottages, exchanged funny and loving notes to each other (delivered by friends in flip-flops walking along the dirt road, small dust clouds behind them). Hair and make up in one cabin, neck ties and pocket watches in the other, wedding time drawing closer and closer.
With the sun high and stringed-instruments humming, Dave and Krissy were married, laughter and tears shared with vows. We headed off to a nearby lighthouse to get some photos done afterward.
Fast forward a bit, through some more photos, through dinner and speeches, and into the night, and through my lens I’m learning new dance moves from a group of friendly young people (like, teen or younger than that). If anybody wants to watch me whip, or watch me nae nae, have I got a treat for you.
