Sometimes I like to fantasize about weddings that I would love to shoot. I have this dream about a circus-themed wedding where the bride rides an elephant down the isle where there is huge net that catches the groom, who is shot from a cannon from 100 yards away. They get married by a clown on stilts and the best man is a monkey with cymbals and a funny hat. The reception is carny-games and 3-ring circus entertainment. Of course, that would be a million dollar wedding, and people who have a million dollars to drop on a wedding tend to have different tastes than I do. So, I started to think about realistic fantasy weddings. This one featured in this blog would be pretty close to a realistic fantasy wedding. The wedding was at one of my favourite places in Nova Scotia: Oceanstone. It was outside, the weather was perfect. The bride and bridesmaids all dressed as unicorns! The groom and his men were hilarious and friendly. Everybody was warm and welcoming. They were married by a good friend of theirs. They had a band, and the band was awesome. And, the bride and groom really valued photography, so much so that when the party was over, when it was late and cold out, they let us take some night portraits of them under the stars. The speeches were also hilarious and strangely inspiring. Example: Sean (groom) once ate a multi-page test during high school. The story, told by his best man, described how Sean was dared to eat his test and that he’d get shotgun in his friend’s ride for the summer if he did. So, when the test began, Sean began tearing the test up into little pieces and eating them, one by one. When the time was up and students were turning in their tests, Sean walked up and turned in the staple. #liveonyourownterms
