Halifax Lifestyle Photographs: Welcome Oliver

8 May 2016 by Topher & Rae Leave a Comment

It blows my mind with gratitude that we have regulars to our blog, reading and looking at our photographs. If that’s you, know that I’m taking my hands off the keyboard for a moment to wave at you through my screen.  Like anybody who creates stuff, I truly appreciate having an audience.  If you’re familiar with our work, you probably remember Matt and Megan, whose wedding we photographed last year (on my birthday, by coincidence).  Matt and Megan have unforgettable personalities and it shows in their photographs.  When we meet people who comment on our wedding photography, most make some sort of reference to Matt and Megan’s wedding.  We don’t take much credit for that.  They’re enviably full of life, and it was really easy to show that.  In fact, they are so full of life that about a month after their wedding they went ahead and made a new life.

Oliver has been part of the human condition since April, 18th, 2016.  Not even a month. Halifax is relatively small and his parents are social, so even if you have no obvious connection to him, maybe you’ll have the privilege to meet him one day.  If he’s old enough to chat it up with you, I think you’ll find that he’s idealistic (in the best sense), kind, kind, kind, hilarious, and ready to stand up for justice.  These are just guesses based on who his parents are. I say idealist, but his parents are also realists. It’s a rare combo.  Megan (Oliver’s mom) wrote a blog a few days ago that show how much reality they’re able to confront and be honest about.  I love posts like that.  Our Facebook photographs, our Instagrams, and especially our LinkedIn profiles are also polished, happy, positive–but reality is messy.  It’s gratifying to have that thoughtfully acknowledged.

There was a bit of that messiness for this shoot.  Poor Oliver was having a bit of a rough day.  Nothing major, just some hunger and grumpiness maybe. Being less than a month old, these are big problems.  Megan & Matt were quick to comfort and sooth, were concerned but not obsessive. Oliver is certainly in loving hands.

Today is Mother’s Day, and I’m publishing this so that Megan can see some of her photos now (because we’re not quite done with all of them quite yet).  Megan, you’re rocking this.  Matt, you’re rocking this too.
