The last few months have been rough here at Topher & Rae Studios. In all honesty, Rae and I let negativity hijack our minds and a subtle, unspoken but destructive narrative developed that depleted a lot of our energy. The painful narrative was sort of, “we are total photography hacks” and “all of our decent photos were flukes”. I’d scroll through Instagram and see all the mind-blowing photography of some of my peers and think, “I don’t stack up”. And that would lead to “what am I even doing with my life?” I’m thankful that I was able to eventually see this old familiar neurotic script that my brain sometimes spits out, and I began working on it. I apparently need to do consistent brain-maintenance (journaling, meditation, yoga) to function at a level that I find acceptable. Once I returned to my daily practices, the awful spell lifted. It always does. And once the spell lifted and I felt better, I wanted to share our photography online again. And so it’s with excitement that I showcase A & S’s wedding–a teeny tiny but stunning wedding.
A &S had a unique situation. They wanted to get married in Halifax before they got married in China. Their Chinese wedding was going to be all out but they wanted a small ‘pre-wedding’ in Halifax, one jammed with awesome. Their idea of awesome was one I definitely approved of: outdoors, a few close friends, a view of the sea, lots of time for a cool portrait session, and not necessarily done within all legal parameters. Love over the law right?
When they came to us with their ideas, we were enthusiastically onboard. And after the success of their engagement session, we knew this wedding was going to be one of our favourites of all time, despite it having a less than 10 guests, a very modest budget, and happening on the hottest day EVAR!!!!!
We hope you enjoy some of our favourite images of their day.
