Oceanstone: Up Close & Coastal
If you’re unfamiliar with the “Up Close & Coastal” series that Oceanstone is hosting, here some details. Oceanstone is a gorgeous resort on Peggy’s Cove road, Indian Harbour. Pine trees, blossoms and green grass surround beach cottages. Swimming, barbecues, fire pits, warm breezes, sunsets. You get the idea. East coast at its finest. For Up Close & Coastal, Live 105 brings Atlantic Canada artists to Oceanstone for an amazing evening.
On-site chefs prepare exquisite dishes and in the intimate setting of Oceanstone’s main lodge, in candle light, an east coast musician performs. Last time it was Brian Byrne. This Friday, Town Heroes came by. I can’t think of a better way to hear live music.
A portion of the proceeds to relief operations in Fort McMurray.
Heather Rankin is scheduled for July!
Mike and Bruce from the 2 piece band ‘Town Heroes’, apart from being great musicians, are hilarious. Their videos are funny and inventive, and the band is the same way on stage. Immediately upon getting on stage, before even introducing themselves, Mike announced that it was the official birthday of blue jeans (which I later looked up and verified for myself). This became the theme of a lot of off-beat humour, which was thick between songs. Midway through the set, the sun began setting behind them. Golden light streamed in through the west-facing windows. It was red wine, laughter and amazing music while the fire place kept it cozy.
Luckily for me, the Town Heroes are really nice guys. I uh, didn’t do my research before coming to Oceanstone on Friday night. I didn’t know much about the Town Heroes. I didn’t know, for example, what they looked like. As I was chatting up a guest, I casually asked, “hey, have you guys heard this band before”? Of course, of all the people I could have been chatting with, it had to be Bruce, who kindly told me that he was half of the band. When I blushed and apologized, he waved his hand at me, saying that they didn’t expect people to recognize them.
I’m going to be keeping track of these guys from now on. Rae and I just binge-watched their Youtube videos and loved them.
